CPRE Somerset is delighted to be sponsoring a new award for the Best Somerset Village Shop as part of the new Somerset Live Village of the Year Award

We want rural Somerset to be a great place to live and work, with thriving villages and good local amenities. We hope that this new Award will encourage people to appreciate the value of our village shops and to support them whenever they can.

The competition from supermarkets is tough, with chains now operating smaller “local” stores and offering home deliveries, so many village shops are struggling to survive. Our new Somerset’s Best Village Shop Award will champion those outstanding shops in Somerset that really make a difference to their communities and we will show others what can be done.

We will be looking for rural shops that:
Offer great customer service
Act as a community hub
Go that little bit further with the products and services they offer
Promote local produce
Have an attractive display

We are offering a prize of £100 for the winner and £50 for the runner up.  Nominations must come from shop customers or members of the local community.  To enter, look for the entry form in various local newspapers - Wells Journal, Shepton Mallet Journal, Cheddar Valley Gazette, Central Somerset Gazette, Frome Standard, Somerset Guardian and Western Gazette or online at https://www.somersetlive.co.uk/news/entries-open-somerset-village-year-1413233

Clsoing date is 14th June 2018
