Tuesday 20th March 2018

A fascinating day with Roger from Porlock Bay Oysters, complete with tastngs and a visit to the oyster beds at low tide.

A rgroup of CPRE members learnt how oysters are grown in Porlock Bay direct from the people who set up this Community Interest Company, which uses all its profits to benefit the community of Porlock.  In 2012 a community project was set up to revive oyster growing in Porlock as a way of providing jobs for local people and encouraging young people to stay in the village.  We had an illustrated talk in the village hall from one of the founders of the project, then enjoyed a locally made sandwich lunch and sampled the oysters.  Then it was time to put our wellies on for a visit to the oyster beds on the beach at low tide.
