2020 Photography Competition – we have our winner!
Reasons to be Cheerful – 2020 Photography Competition – Winner Announced
We received over 75 entries, far more than in previous years, and it was a real pleasure seeing the wonderful images sent in from all over Somerset – and the birds, beasties and bugs we share our lives with.
In September, our three judges had the tough job of choosing their favourite. Our winner is Neighbourly Isolation by Jeff Hutson who lives in Crewkerne. Jeff told us the story behind the picture:
“Very soon after Lockdown began in March, like clockwork, my near neighbours Betty and Sheila, would appear outside their homes to enjoy the early evening sunshine, giving a friendly wave and smile to passers-by. That evening when I took the photo they were joined by dogs Amber (the Sheltie) and Max, the black Labrador”
We hope you agree that Jeff’s picture really sums up the theme of “Reasons To Be Cheerful” and captures the spirit of those early days of lockdown this spring.
Jeff was delighted to win our £100 prize but, (after consulting with Betty and Sheila!), he has very kindly offered to donate his prize back to CPRE Somerset. We are really grateful for this kind gesture and we have agreed to put this money towards a new prize for junior photographers in our 2021 competition – watch this space!
Thank you to everyone who entered our competition – your pictures gave us plenty of Reasons To Be Cheerful!
If you are a keen photographer and would be willing to share your images of Somerset, its countryside and rural life with CPRE Somerset, we would love to hear from you. You can get in touch via admin@cpresomerset.org.uk
