We are pleased to announce the winners of  our 2022 photography competition – “Happy days in Somerset”.

Our annual photo competition celebrates what is special about Somerset and we love seeing the fabulous range of entries each year. This year, we were looking for photos that capture happy days out and about in the Somerset countryside.

Our theme “Happy days in Somerset” brought in some wonderful images and we are really grateful to everyone who entered.  Our judges had a tough job but they have chosen the winners in each age category, who each receive a prize of £100.

The adult category winner is Jeanette Broughton with her beautiful shot “Somerset life by the River Brue one May evening” (above).  Our judges love the composition of this photo, the reflections and the vivid colours of the flowers.
Jeanette said “I felt so shocked to hear that my photo had won the CPRE competition. I loved all of the other entries that I have seen on the website. I love Somerset, it’s my home and I feel lucky to live in the beautiful surroundings that we have. The photo I chose to use for the competition was taken on a lovely evening, walking along the River Brue. I could spend hours in this spot and sometimes I do!

Our Under 18 winner is Sea Walks by Dan Fawden.

Our judges loved how the texture of the rocky shore mirrored the patterns in the clouds. Dan said “To win the competition is amazing news. The tide was just coming in when I captured this photo of my dog, Skye, on the last bit of rock left on the beach, soon to be under water.

Huge congratulations to Jeanette and Dan and thank you to everyone who entered the competition. Many thanks to our judges, Ross Alexander of Moment Photography in Bridgwater, Andrew Lee, Editor of The Leveller , our Chair, Hugh Williams and CPRE member Kit Houghton, who is also a professional photographer.

We can’t wait to do it all again in 2023!
