Welcoming our new Chair

After more than eight years service, Chris Lewis stepped down as Chair of CPRE Somerset at our AGM in November 2021 and we now welcome our new Chair, Hugh Williams.

Chris has steered our charity with a safe pair of hands but has always been open to exploring new approaches. CPRE Somerset now responds better to communities in need of planning support and our profile, as the countryside charity for Somerset, has increased. We now have more ability to fundraise, organise events and take on project work, like our #2minute litterpick project and our photo competition. As Chair, Chris has built partnerships with others across the CPRE network and with other environmental groups in Somerset. Chris has shown a deep commitment to CPRE Somerset and we are immensely grateful to him for all his hard work and wisdom.

Taking over the reigns as Chair is Hugh Williams. Hugh has been a Trustee for three years and became our Vice Chair in early 2021.  He lives in a small village near Crewkerne, South Somerset and is actively involved in his Parish wildlife group.  Hugh is one of our #2minute litterpick volunteers and also organises litterpicks in his village. He has spoken up against poor developments at many planning committees in the last couple of years. We are very grateful to Hugh for stepping up and we are looking forward to working together in the years to come.
