Noisy motocross site on Somerset Levels gets the thumbs down

We are delighted to hear that an illegal motocross site near Burrow Mump on the Somerset Levels will have to cease operating.

Local residents have had to deal with the noise and disturbance caused by motorbikes for many months now and it was becoming unbearable.  CPRE Somerset responded to cries for help from the local community and, after a site visit, we submitted our own objection when the landowners were forced to apply for retrospective planning permission.  The noise and of the motorbikes upset the peace and tranquillity of the flat, open landscape of the Levels and of Burrow Mump, a Grade II listed Building and Scheduled Monument, which is also a war memorial.  This should be a place for quiet reflection.

This is an area that is relatively undeveloped and has special protection for its wildlife value.  We are pleased that this unacceptable and unauthorised noise and disturbance will now have to stop as Somerset West and Taunton Council have refused to grant retrospective planning permission.

If you live in an area that is threatened by inappropriate development, please contact us and we will do our best to help.
