Somerset Vintage Motorcycle Club helping to rescue much-loved signposts
We are delighted to have received a donation for the second year running from the Vintage Motorcycle Club (Somerset Section). The donation comes with just one condition – that the money should be ringfenced for our fingerpost restoration project. But why would a motorcycle club would want to support the restoration of historic signposts?
Answer – they don’t have Satnavs!
The club members ride old motorcycles that can’t support modern navigation systems so they all rely on our old fashioned fingerpost road signs.
In fact, they don’t just rely on them – they are rather keen on them! Each year, the club holds a signpost rally. Members compete to find 12 signposts, spread around some 80 miles of roads, just using photographs and a map. They have to answer certain clue questions to prove they have visited them all.

This year, the club also donated funds which they raised at other events and talks. So far, the club has donated £650 in total, which is enough to help towards the restoration of 3 fingerposts here in Somerset.
Many thanks to the VMCC (Somerset Section) for their generous support..
If you know of an historic signpost in need of repair, please ask your Parish Council to get in touch with us to find out about our grants.
