Somerset Vintage Motorcycle Club supports our fingerpost restoration fund

We had a nice surprise recently with a donation of £200 from the Vintage Motorcycle Club (Somerset Section).  They had just one condition – that the donation was only to be spent on our fingerpost project.  But why would a motorcycle club would want to support the restoration of historic signposts?

Answer – they don’t have Satnavs!

The club members ride old motorcycles that can’t support modern navigation systems so they all rely on our old fashioned fingerpost signs.

In fact, they don’t just rely on them – they are rather keen on them!  Each year, the club holds a signpost rally.  Members compete to find 12 signposts, spread around some 80 miles of roads, just using photographs and a map. They have to answer certain clue questions to prove they have visited them all.

'Our annual fingerpost rallies are a fun event for members and a great way to see the Somerset countryside. We had seen some of the excellent repair work to some fingerposts during our rallies and we thought we should support you. '
Kevin Hellier, Member of Vintage Motorcycle Club Somerset Committee

Many thanks to the VMCC (Somerset Section) for their generous donation.

If you know of an historic signpost in need of repair, please ask your Parish Council to get in touch to find out about our grants.
