The big idea – could the Somerset Levels become our next National Park?
We believe that the Somerset Levels has what it takes to become England’s next National Park. It’s a brave idea but sometimes big dreams can become reality if we work together.
CPRE was at the forefront of the campaign to establish our UK National Parks, early in the 20th century. We’ve been fighting for better protection of our countryside for 100 years!
To mark CPRE’s centenary here in Somerset, we are thinking big. We want to start a conversation about our “big idea” of achieving National Park status for the Somerset Levels.
We want to share just how special this place is and we want to explore its huge potential for landscape, nature, people and the environment.
- We know that National Park status is a hugely complex thing to achieve.
- We know it will take time and needs the support and partnership of lots of different people.
That’s why we have spent several months talking to other organisations and key people here in Somerset about our “big idea”.
Has the Somerset Levels got what it takes to become a National Park?
We think it does – and we are ready to share our ideas and hear what you think!
We have created a short questionnaire survey so you can tell us why the Somerset Levels is special to you, what you love about the area and what you think could be improved.
